An Inspiration Guide: Simple {beautiful} Christmas

Simple and Christmas do not usually go hand in hand. But I’m craving minimalism this year. There’s something about simplicity that feels good. With proper research and suspending your impulse to buy all things Christmas, you can decorate your home with purpose and intention, find the joy in the season, and leave out the excess. There are so many beautiful examples of Christmas decor that is not only simple, but inexpensive. Focusing on garland, candlelight, simple bows and neutral colors, your Christmas decor can feel like a winter wonderland without leaving your home. Scroll for my favorite inspiration for this 2021 season.

The history of Christmas decor is rooted in simplicity and awe.

From “The History of Christmas Trees”: “Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. Some built Christmas pyramids of wood and decorated them with evergreens and candles if wood was scarce.

It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. Walking toward his home one winter evening, composing a sermon, he was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreens.

To recapture the scene for his family, he erected a tree in the main room and wired its branches with lighted candles.”

When we step back and think about why we decorate and adorn our homes, it all comes back to the feeling we get in the space. We dote on our homes for our family, for the look in the eyes of our children, or the cuddles we experience by a dimly lit tree on a cold December morning. We also are recreating the feeling of Christmases past for ourselves. The nostalgia and the tradition make us feel at home, even if we are in a new place with new people.

Origin Home is inspired by nature with everything we do, and Christmas decor is no different. Natural textures, real garland and the smell of the outdoors will ground your home in the beauty of the season and provide a peaceful setting to create beautiful memories for your loved ones for years to come. Finding peace and simplicity in the ritual of lighting candles, pouring tea, or watching your favorite Christmas movie on the couch, the season, at its best, brings us together in the best way.
