How To Hire An Interior Designer

I’ll be honest, interior design can feel unapproachable. Sometimes it can seem that only a few of us get the luxury of an interior designer hired specifically to create a cohesive and complete design.

I have felt that way too. But I’m here to tell you that, with the right designer, you will see the value and gratification of what they can do.

Interior Design is an artform. Most designers offer a keen aesthetic eye (that not everyone has) with an appreciation for functionality and problem solving.

I personally love to evoke a feeling in a space. We love to create a space that feels balanced and uplifting. We believe that your home is your sanctuary, the container of beautiful memories with family and dear friends.

  1. Design One Room at a Time

When hiring an interior designer, it’s ok that you have a budget. Or if you don’t know how much you can afford yet, it’s ok to start small and ask if you can have one room designed. See how it feels and take your time. Design your home in stages. There are some designers who have a minimum cost to use them. Not all are this way. Be sure to ask if this is an option and start small.

  2. Pay for the Design Only

Most designers will offer a design only option. We love this type of service because it can allow you to do a lot of the footwork but take out the actual creative process so you just follow the instructions and boom, you have your designed room!

To accomplish this, you would take measurements of the space and provide to the designer. Next, you would provide a general idea of what you’re looking for with photos of your inspiration. From there, your designer will complete several “mood boards” to give a gist of the room before narrowing down to the exact furniture and styling. The designer can then provide instructions and visuals for how the furniture should be placed, any structural changes, and what to buy and how to style it.

  3. Decide To Delegate To Someone You Trust

At the end of the day, if you are someone who values the way your home feels and functions, finding a designer you trust is the best way to go. They can literally shop for you over time and create a design that evolves as you do in your home. This is the best type of relationship with an interior design team. This takes a designer who can listen to your needs and wants, but it equally requires a client that trusts their design team. This is on the more costly side of things, but a great interior designer is fully transparent with cost and will always keep in mind your budget.

Hiring an Interior Designer may just be the best thing you can do to create the feeling you want in your home. We would love to work with you. Contact us here to get started.
